Dan summed it up pretty well. 40 guys fished, and only 37 fish were weighed in. Ouch! The OCBA weighed in 10 fish, and half of those fish were caught between 3:45 and 4:00. We weighed in at 4:15. It was an incredibly tough day out there with very few dinks, or other species caught. This was also a LONG day as most of us woke up around 4:00 and didn't get home until around 7:00. But, it was fun, and next year the MBI is on St. Clair!!

Our guys never gave up. the tournament started at 8:15 a.m. and ended at 4:15 p.m. and just before 4:00 I saw members of some other clubs heading for the boat launch and we were still fishing like we had just started. And the fish fish turned on and we had three boats with no fish at about 3:30 and all three boats caught some fish at the end.Brian Belevender had a spot he guarded all day and had caught 3 keepers early and another two at the last. Though one was just 14" so we decided not to weigh it in and take a chance they would call it short. Derrek caught a fish at 4:05 p.m. in my boat. The fishing was so tough I only caught two dinks and a pike all day. Louie

It was super tough! Until I caught my first fish at about 3:45, I had fished the lake for about 141/2 hours without a keeper (counting last week's T). Then at about 4:05, I caught another. I didn't think our club had a chance because Louie had been gving us updates and no one besides Brian's boat caught anything. It was truly a last minute victory, with each boat contributing with fish caught in the last half hour.

After thinking about the tournament a little more, I'd like to really point out the persistence of our club members in the MBI. Unlike some of the other guys in the other clubs, we all fished until the last minute. We showed up to the launch after the tournament, and many guys were already full, from all the food that was there. They had just given up on the lake. However, because our guys saw it to the end, we ended up winning. The last minute rally of our team really goes to show that every minute counts, and that giving up early can have negative effects on your tournament results. This is definitely something that I will keep in mind next year during our tournaments, and it's something we should all think about.
